Canon EF 135mm f/2 L USM

30th September 2008

As my birthday is coming up on the 4th October, I treated myself to a new Canon Lens - the Canon EF 135 f/2 L USM. I was able to pick up this lens second-hand at a very reasonable price and it is in mint condition having been very well looked after by it's previous owner.

The 135mm f/2 was on my wish-list as it is purported to be one of Canon's sharpest lenses with fantastic bokeh and colour. At an aperture of f/2 it is the fastest 135mm lens out there so is ideal for low-light photography. It will primarily be used as a portrait lens on my Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III camera and having seen some of the images from other photographers with this combination I can surely expect some great results?

The 135mm is probably a bit long for portraiture on a cropped sensor but on a full-frame sensor I think the results will be ideal? The lens also has a fairly close focusing distance of 3ft/0.9m so can capture some great head-and-shoulders with a very shallow depth-of-field.

No doubt I will have a chance to play around with the lens this coming weekend by taking some more photo's of my children for a change.
